Cheeky Ox

I am so pleased Waitrose is now selling cheeks from it’s butcher’s counter. I had cooked pork cheeks before but this time they only had Ox so why not give them a try.
Because they take a good couple of hours to cook I prepared everything and left it cooking in a low oven for almost 3 hours so I had plenty of time to get some shopping and go to the gym for a cardio workout.

Great value cut of meat. 2 ox cheeks will serve 4/6 people and I paid under a fiver for them

You will need:
2 ox cheeks, cut in half
2 leeks, chopped
2 sticks of celery, chopped
2 large carrots, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1/2 head of garlic, chopped
2 fresh tomatoes, skinned and chopped
1 handful fresh thyme
Beef stock

Salt and pepper the cheeks and fry in a bit of olive oil to seal them. Remove from the pan and add the prepared veg, tomatoes, thyme and stock, before returning the meat to the pan

Once is cooked add a splash of Worcestershire sauce and balsamic vinegar, this really adds a great taste to the dish
